GROUNDHOG/WOODCHUCK TRAPPING SERVICES
GROUNDHOG TRAPPING IS AN AREA OF EXPERTISE FOR BLUE RIDGE WILDLIFE & FISHERIES MANAGEMENT
The woodchuck, more commonly referred to as a groundhog in the state of Virginia, is a species found quite frequently in urban sprawl areas, suburban areas, and agricultural areas. We get calls for groundhog trapping regularly.
Once groundhogs have found a particular area that fits their food and water needs, they will establish their burrow system. These systems can easily run 50 to 100 yards underground with many exit points. Typically, more than one generation may live together, and tunnel systems will be reused year to year.
If you need groundhog/woodchuck trapping and live in the Staunton, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, Lexington, Covington, Roanoke, Salem, Smith Mountain Lake, Charlottesville, Ruckersville, Lovingston, or Richmond areas, feel free to call us today.
Groundhog Damage
BLUE RIDGE WILDLIFE & FISHERIES MANAGEMENT IS A LOCAL WILDLIFE CONTROL COMPANY SPECIALIZING IN THE TRAPPING OF GROUNDHOGS/WOODCHUCKS
The most frequent damage call we receive at Blue Ridge Wildlife & Fisheries Management, LLC related to groundhogs is burrow systems that undermine the structural stability of decks, outbuildings, or sidewalks. Groundhogs like to create entrances to their burrow systems under covered areas or against hard edges. Sidewalks, buildings, and decks provide this scenario in its ideal form.
Groundhogs also lead to many agricultural damage issues, whether a small garden plot where they are stealing vegetables or large-scale agriculture operations where burrow systems pose a risk to expensive equipment, such as tractors and attached equipment.
In addition to these two common damage issues, groundhogs are also fond of fuel lines on vehicles. Most vehicles made after the year 2000 have fuel lines with a peanut oil lubricant; this scent draws groundhogs to the vehicles, and their chewing can lead to thousands of dollars in damage.
If you believe you have a groundhog causing any of the issues mentioned above, call us today at 844-WILDPRO for groundhog trapping services.
Groundhog Removal
Since 2011 we have been successfully removing groundhogs/woodchucks from our client’s properties and offering permanent solutions. We offer two main options.
Trapping
Trapping is the most budget-friendly and called-for service we offer for groundhogs. We use only professional-grade traps that are covered to keep the animal sheltered from any elements from the time of capture until pickup. Trapping programs are typically priced with a fee to set the traps and then a per animal fee; however, with large-scale issues that need to address multiple families of groundhogs, we offer per week/per month services at a flat rate.
Burial Fence
Burial fence is our favorite solution for groundhog issues when it is applicable. Why? Well, we like to offer our customers a solution to solve their current wildlife conflict and prevent future wildlife conflicts, and burial fencing does just that. Installed along the perimeter of decks, buildings, or sheds, our custom-fabricated burial fencing isn’t just the chicken wire you see on the neighbor’s deck next door. It is a deeply buried system that will not allow any species to pass under that deck or building now or in the future. We also love it because it gives us the ability to “one way” the animal out of the area it is in, and force it to relocate naturally.
Groundhog Biology
BLUE RIDGE WILDLIFE & FISHERIES MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN SERVING CENTRAL AND WESTERN VIRGINIA SINCE 2011. CALL US TODAY FOR GROUNDHOG TRAPPING AND ALL OF YOUR WILDLIFE NEEDS.
- The average adult ground is 4-8 pounds, but it can exceed 14 pounds.
- Groundhogs are mostly brown with a shorter black tail; their bodies typically appear to be almost touching the ground.
- Groundhogs reproduce between February and April. In some cases, the breeding could actually have happened in the previous fall and the female simply delayed insemination. They have a 48-day gestation period and produce 3-6 pups per litter.
