Habitat Modification
ALLOW US TO MODIFY THE HABITAT IN YOUR POND TO INCREASE FISH GROWTH, ALLOW MORE SPECIES, OR REDUCE YOUR FAVORITE FISHING LURE GETTING HUNG UP WHEN CASTING A LINE.
Second to water quality, habitat is the most important feature in pond management, inevitably determining its success and sustainability. The proper habitat (including an artificial habitat) aids not only in fish survival but growth and reproductive success. At Blue Ridge Wildlife & Fisheries Management, LLC, habitat modification is a key component of most of our management plans, with artificial fish attractors being one of our main structures. Fish attractors improve spawning habitat, while providing valuable structure for all species of fish. These fish attractors will help in the enhancement of the quantity and quality of fish, as well as attract fish to specific locations.
This artificial habitat is designed to help catch fish without losing hooks or lures. Fish relate to them quickly as algae and plankton form to attract baitfish, luring larger fish to their locale. An artificial habitat with fish attractors provides refuge and shade to young fish, too, increasing survival rates. They are environmentally friendly and will not disintegrate. While artificial fish attractors are more convenient for most fishers, we will also use natural habitat if that is what the customer desires. From bushes to trees and logs, all can be used to successfully increase the productivity of a fishery.
